Penganalisis Teknikal percaya bahawa setiap faktor pasaran yang berkaitan sudah dikira dalam harga instrumen. Oleh itu, satu-satunya perkara yang mereka perlu analisis ialah pergerakan harga.
Harga sentiasa dijangka membentuk dan mengikut trend, walaupun secara rawak. Adalah lebih berkemungkinan untuk harga meneruskan trend masa lalu daripada bergerak secara tidak menentu.
Penganalisis teknikal membuat ramalan berdasarkan pemerhatian bahawa sejarah cenderung bergerak dalam kitaran dan oleh itu akan berulang.
