Global Vaccination process examined

With the vaccination process heading at the top of the priority list worldwide, new concerns have come into play that could affect the economy from various perspectives. The current pace of the vaccination process is speeding up but also very slow in different continents, bringing to light new challenges that vaccine producers, governments and the society face on a daily basis. This report will be covering various aspects of the pre mentioned subjects putting together an overall assessment of the vaccination process including details that investors can use when engaging the market.

First of all, an issue that seems to highly worry individuals, is the mandatory use of vaccines. Even though governments have not clarified what their next steps are on the matter, most people are identifying with the idea that, as long as someone is vaccinated that person is safe and safe to be around too. Even though countries like the US and the UK are currently ahead of other nations in terms of vaccinated people, there is a considerable percentage of the population that does not want to be vaccinated at this stage. However, there is a possibility that governments could announce measures that will force these people into being vaccinated. For example, individuals may be forced to use a vaccine in order to travel with an airplane or enter another country or state. This could also be said as people will be prohibited from accessing other countries or states, unless they have proof of vaccination. Domestically, jobs that require employees to be present with their clients like restaurants, hotels, hairdressers or saloons can use vaccination to promote their services.

These businesses can guarantee their clients that all their employees are currently vaccinated making the environment a little bit safer for them to attend. In this case, how will the business deal with the employee that does not want to be vaccinated for whatever reason? This could easily lead to discrimination within society that could lead to isolation or even psychological despair. Reasons for choosing not to be vaccinated by the way, can vary also from some people being afraid of vaccines for medical reasons including pregnancy, prolonged bad health circumstances or simply just choosing not to take it.

At this point we must consider the defects noticed so far with the usage of some vaccines especially in the case of AstraZeneca with unusual blood clots that have led to unfavourable circumstances among users. Also AstraZeneca is confirmed by many sources to have presented misleading information through its clinical trial data which lead to a revise of its vaccine’s overall efficacy rate downwards, from 79% to 76%. For this reason some people are now choosing other vaccines over AstraZeneca’s one. More directly Pfizer’s (#PFE) and Moderna’s vaccines could be the most sought after at this stage. According to updates through Pfizer’s official website, Pfizer’s vaccine has delivered better results than initially announced in its trial stage and lasts up to six months after the second dose is provided. Pfizer has also seen effectiveness of 100% in adolescents 12 to 15 years of age with or without prior evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Specialists on viruses have also added that Pfizer’s vaccine is extremely effective against the South African variant which is considered among the most dangerous. The news seems to be very encouraging especially when we are attempting to build an immune system among youth and also due to the variants being extremely infectious.

Yet we must clarify that the mRNA technology used in both Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines, has not been used before and has been approved as an emergency. These companies are longing to get official approval by the FDA but at the moment they have been issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) due to the pandemic getting out of control. So we don’t know what their effect will be health wise in the long term. In any case, the pressure and demand for more vaccines globally is pushing the matter to the other extreme with the FDA authorizing Moderna to provide more doses per package sent. Initially they provided a multiple-dose vial with a maximum of 11 doses and the number has now been increased to 15.

Moreover, the FDA increased the time available for the doses to be kept in room temperature to 24 hours, up from the previously authorized 12 hours. These are all sings that we are currently still in a vulnerable position as per the vaccination process and far from creating a global immune system. Furthermore, even though Pfizer and Moderna lead the way as per the companies approved to manufacture covid-19 vaccines, Johnson and Johnson (#JNJ) has also joined the game and is currently gaining ground and attraction. According to headlines from the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal, JNJ is taking over manufacturing of its Covid-19 vaccine at a contract manufacturer’s plant that makes the main ingredient, after a production problem ruined a batch. The fact that all the pre mentioned companies are looking for ways to increase production in the present and in the following months, is because the speed of the process will determine the outcome.

We must also add that countries like China and Russia have vaccinated people using their own vaccines. Here arises the question of how and if these vaccines will be identified and approved by other continents and whether these people will be considered safe entering other countries.

As a conclusion we expect the pre mentioned companies including AstraZeneca to keep the manufacturing activities at peak levels for the rest of the year. Even though companies are still researching how long the vaccines can hold up after being inoculated, the vaccination process could remain in place in the following years. Even if new cases are seen to decline drastically we expect the process to remain in place as the pandemic has proven that even if a small portion of new cases arise, then nobody around the world will be safe as the virus travels and spreads very fast and easily. As the US could vaccinate the majority of adults twice by the end of the current year, the improved production process which is developing at the moment, can be used to level up other continents around the world like Africa and Europe which are currently stalling.
